Immigration employment in the UK

Immigration employment in the UK

Are UK Press Media wrong about immigrant workers? Who is the UK immigrant? Are they skilled/unskilled?

Overview

What was made:

By using public data from ONS and Census, we made a case to showcase the profile of working immigrant and that that profile contradicst with what UK media is showing on a daily basis.

Background and objectives:

How did the project begin? The project began because everyone in the team was passionate to find out the real facts about immigrants in the UK. Motivation was to be able to prove that immigrants are less employed and not that well paid. Also, interesting was to get internationally what occupations migrant workers have.

Outcome:

We learned to collaborate with new people who never met before. Raw data is difficult to clean and find what you need in the sea of public data. If something to be changed, we would change the approach, for example everyone from the team to be working on the same dataset.
